Storebælt's aim is to make it simple to commute across the bridge. With effect from 1 May 2023, you can get an automatic commuter discount on the Storebælt Bridge. The Storebælt Commuter Agreement for private customers will cease from the same date, and your current commuting period can only be renewed up to and including 30 April 2023.
If you commute across the bridge, you will automatically be eligible for a commuter discount when you pay with a bizz or by number plate.
You will pay the normal price with a bizz or by number plate registration for the first 14 trips every calendar month. After that you will pay DKK 0 per trip. If you make more than 50 trips in one calendar month, you will once again pay the normal price with a bizz or number plate.
We want to make it easy to commute across the Storebælt Bridge.
With the automatic commuter discount, there is no need to register and no upfront charge. There’s also no need to plan your driving requirements in advance and spend time on administration. You are automatically eligible for the discount. You will not pay for more than you use if, for example, you are ill or there are changes to your work patterns.
You can freely switch between two cars in one calendar month if you use a bizz and still get the automatic commuter discount. This makes it easy if you’re a two-car household or have rented a car while your car is being repaired.
You are also eligible for the commuter discount with number plate payment. It’s easy if you always drive the same car.
If you’re used to having a Storebælt commuter agreement, there are three important changes you should be aware of:
This page enables you to calculate the effects the commuter discount will have on you financially. The calculator will show you what you will pay per trip and what the cost will be after tax with the special bridge deduction.
The automatic commuter discount will mean that more motorists will be eligible for a commuter discount than previously. Some current commuters may experience a slight increase in the price per calendar month.
An example
The price you pay will depend on how often you drive across the bridge in one calendar month. If you’re a commuter and drive across the bridge on 22 working days per month, then you will pay DKK 2688 before tax relief per month. In other words, DKK 61 per trip across the bridge before tax relief and a cost of DKK 28 per trip after tax relief.
If you’re entitled to a weekend or evening discount for the trips you pay more than DKK 0 for, you will also receive that discount automatically.
You still qualify for the special tax relief if you commute across the Storebælt Bridge.
Below are examples of three situations and what it means for them after the Storebælt Commuter Agreement is replaced by the automatic commuter discount.
If you drive with a bizz, you can switch between two cars in the same vehicle category in one calendar month. The trips you make in the first two cars in a calendar month are the ones that count when it comes to calculating the commuter discount.
If you use both a motorbike and an ordinary passenger car and want to have the discount across the two vehicle categories, please contact Storebælt’s customer service
Our aim is to make it easy to commute cross the Storebælt Bridge so that you can live on one side and work on the other.
We have collected feedback from current commuters in our efforts to design the automatic commuter discount and have taken account of the widespread desire for more flexibility, i.e. no upfront payment is required and driving requirements do not have to be registered in advance. Customer feedback has also revealed a wish to be able to switch cars. It is, therefore, now possible to switch freely between two passenger cars.
We expect more motorists to obtain a commuter discount after 1 May 2023, and that the automatic discount will mean that on an annual basis, DKK 3.2 million more overall will be given to commuters across the Storebælt Bridge.
If you have more than 25 working days per month and thus more than 50 trips in one calendar month, please contact Storebælt’s customer service.
Yes. You can get a commuter discount for a motorbike or small car according to the same principle, i.e. 14 trips at the standard price and DKK 0 for between 14 and 50 trips. Should you wish to use both a motorbike/small car and an ordinary passenger car, you will not automatically get a discount across the different vehicle categories. Instead, you can choose to pay the price for an ordinary passenger car, regardless of whether you commute in your passenger car or by motorbike/small car. In this way, all your trips will count.
If you use a bizz, you are free to switch between two cars in a calendar month. If you switch your bizz to a third car, you will pay the ordinary discount price for the trips you make in it. But you’re welcome to use two other cars in the subsequent calendar month.
As no registration or upfront payment is required, no action is needed on your part if you take a holiday or if you are prevented for some other reason from commuting across the bridge for a period.
You should be aware, however, that the commuter discount is based on full calendar months. If your holiday spans two months, the limit for when you are eligible for a commuter discount in one calendar month is still more than 14 trips in one calendar month.
